Before we review the various types of energy available to us today, we need to think about the “not in my backyard” thinking that we all engage in and often drives our energy production. None of us desire having a wind farm, solar farm, oil and gas production facilities, nuclear power plant, coal fired power plant, transmission lines or pipelines in our back yard. If we all say, “not here”, that makes all forms of energy unsustainable.
Energy production impacts people, environments, and property values. Certain areas are more impacted than others. Companies go to great lengths to mitigate the impact, but we need to have more gratitude for those communities that are impacted so that we can enjoy our everyday lives.
